Cortina2021 new logo presentation

The Alpine Skiing World Cup Championship logo was presented

On January 27, the Cortina d’Ampezzo Town Hall hosted the presentation of the Alpine Skiing World Cup 2021 competition official logo. The symbol is inspired by the concept of “light”: it is a distinctive element of beauty, elegance, dynamism and innovation, and best expresses the value and identity of an event designed with the future in mind.

The concept has also been inspired by light painting, a form of art that today, thanks to modern technology, comes to life in the identity of Cortina 2021.

“Light” can reveal the splendour of the Dolomites, offering the unique spectacle of shapes and colours, from the dazzling snow of the competition arena to the subtlest rays cast on the mountains which allow us to live the alpenglow spectacle. Light that will make use of technology to enhance our perception of the experience, people and place. “Light” becomes matter we can shape, giving an ideal “lightbrush” in the hands of Cortina’s people, and then the whole world, to design not just a sporting event, but the legacy that will remain.

“Today we celebrate an important step on the road to the 2021 World Cup,” says Riccardo Donadon, President of the Cortina 2021 Foundation. “Now our project has an identity that has our future, which is made of light, as its centre. Light that will guide talent and that will create dialogues between tradition and technology to make the World Cup a great Italian story. We want to follow the example of the Winter Olympics and be a leap forward in the way to narrate, live and manage sport, thanks to the involvement and vision of young people and athletes, and partners who, at Cortina and at the World Cup, decide to experiment, maybe for the first time, with new technologies or new event formats.”

Paolo Nicoletti, the CEO of the Foundation, states: “It is a modern and immaterial logo, which reflects our innovative approach in the management of a major international sport event. Our aim is to exploit the natural “alliance” between sport and technology, winter sports and environmental sustainability, and finally, between major events and infrastructural and immaterial legacy”.

Useful information

The Queen of the Dolomites is only a little over 150 kilometres (94 miles) from the Veneto capital, a short two-hour drive on the A27 motorway (Venice – Belluno). It can also be reached from the Brennero A22 motorway (exit at Bressanone and then continue towards Dobbiaco and Cortina), which is better when coming from Lombardy and Austria.

The train stations closest to Cortina are Calalzo di Cadore (35 km) and Dobbiaco, linked to the Queen of the Dolomites by a bus service that runs in connection with train arrivals and departures. The “Grand Turismo” bus service that connects Cortina to the train stations of Venezia-Mestre is extremely comfortable and quick (only two and four hours respectively). A train-bus service also runs from Milan and Rome, with travel times of five and six hours.

During high season, there are bus services to and from the main airports, railway stations and capital cities of many Italian regions.

The best airports for visiting Cortina are Venice, Treviso, Verona, Bologna, Trieste and Innsbruck. Daily and seasonal connections link the Queen of the Dolomites to Venice Airport. Connections with the main flights are very good, and travel time is just over two hours, on extremely comfortable buses. During high season, there are also bus services to and from the airports of Treviso and Bologna.
